The mystic Snaefellsnes peninsula

This region is named after the majestic Snaefell Glacier at the extremity of the peninsula.  We head northwest from Reykjavík, through Hvalfjördur fiord and the Borgarfjördur region.  We spend the whole day visiting the numerous places of interest in the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.  When we reach the southern part of the peninsula we will for example stop at Budir with its old wooden church and its lava field, at Arnarstapi Village where there are bizarre rock formations by the sea teeming with birdlife.

Djúpalónssandur is one of Iceland’s most famous black sand beach where you can take a stroll and breathe in the fresh air.  In the northern part of the peninsula we drive by the sea through small fishing villages until we reach Bjarnarhöfn, a farm where you will be able to taste an Icelandic speciality – shark ! Then we stop at Stykkisholmur, a charming town located in an idyllic setting by the Breidafjördur Bay.  Return to Reykjavík.
