Day 2- Visit the Vikings in Thingvellir - Geysir – Gullfoss

We start by going to the Thingvellir National Park.  This is a historical sight where the Icelandic parliament was held for several centuries.  It also has high geological interest since it is one of the best places in the world to see a part of the Mid Atlantic Rift where various cracks and fissures have opened in the earth crust.  In this historic area, you have the opportunity to VISIT THE VIKINGS and get to know their culture by participating in the following activities:

TRY OUT THE VIKING WEAPONS
The Vikings mainly used three types of weapons in battles, but they also used them to play games and have fun – precisely what we are doing today!
Archery was one of the main skills to master.  The bow and arrow were used both in battles and during hunts.  Archery competitions were common. There are many tales of champion shots in the saga.  To be able to throw a javelin and an axe with strength and accuracy was just as important for a Viking as being a good archer; practice began at a very young age. The most important thing was being able to hit the target and throw with either hand – in case one got injured.  Soon throwing an axe became a people's sport.

CASTING WITH THE BLACKSMITH
In the Viking Age a “smith” would be an all-round metalworker. The skills and processes of working metal were a mystery to most people in ancient times and were thought by superstitious people to be magical.  Make your own Viking necklace by heating tin until it is liquid, then pouring it into a ready-shaped mould and allow it to cool and set. Then you have made your own Viking piece which you can use as a necklace.

FORTUNE TELLING
Pick one rune out of a bag and it is yours! It has something to tell you - a Viking woman will assist you understanding the message.

VIKIVAKI RING DANCE
Vikivaki dance is danced in a circle with Icelandic folk music sung while dancing. An instructor in Icelandic Viking costume will assist with the dance.

After this unique experience, we continue to the famous geothermal area of Geysir where the Strokkur hot spring ejects its water column high into the air every 5 – 10 minutes or so and where numerous small springs are boiling and bubbling.

Afterwards we only have a short drive to reach Gullfoss, a spectacular waterfall which Icelanders refer to as the “golden” waterfall.

To complete the day in the Viking spirit, dinner at Fjörukráin Viking Restaurant. Fjörukráin plays a special part on the Icelandic restaurant scene.  It is a completely different experience.  All decorations are dedicated to the viking era with the purpose of bringing you the atmosphere of the feasts of our Viking ancestors. As Vikings in full armour serve you a tempting dinner, our musicians create an atmosphere fit for the occasion.  More about  the Viking Restaurant.

Day 3: A Taste of Iceland:  The South Shore and Myrdalsjökull Glacier

Early morning the Super jeeps arrive for pick-up at the hotel.  We head toward Iceland's south coast following Road nr.1 over Hellisheidi heath. The heath is famous for its abundance of geothermal power which is “captured” by Icelanders and is used to heat houses and to produce electricity.

Our first stop will be at the geothermal area of Ölkelduháls where we will boil some eggs in a hot spring. Once done we will serve them with dark rye bread baked in hot springs and toast in an Icelandic drink.

Our adventure continues as we drive on through the agricultural areas of the southern lowlands, arriving at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall.  After admiring the waterfall, and perhaps walking behind it, we have a taste of some edible Icelandic plants while we learn about their medicinal properties.  We also get the secret recipe of the “sorcerer’s lichen milk”. We jump back into our jeeps and continue towards Mýrdalsjokull Glacier. After gearing up and receiving safety instructions, we go for a one hour thrilling snow scooter ride on the glacier (2 persons per scooter). After the ride our tummy is almost empty so it is time for some Icelandic cuisine.

Lunch will be served outside on the glacier or in the mountain hut – depending on weather. Soup, lamb from a barbecue or cold buffet and wine – yummy!

After lunch we head towards the a black sand beach where we test the super jeeps´ power in the sand.  In the middle of all the excitement we will see our next tasty stop - a table filled with shellfish and other delicacies from the sea, along with Icelandic Brennivín schnapps and beer.  If we are lucky we might see a few curious seals popping their heads out of the sea. On the way back to Reykjavik we stop at the 60 m high waterfall of Skógafoss.  Arrival in Reykjavik late afternoon.

Farewell dinner at the Tower Restaurant. This is a new restaurant on the top floor of Iceland’s highest building.  The view from the tower is unique and the dining rooms are modern and extremely elegant at the same time with specially high ceilings (up to 6 m)

Day 4- The Blue Lagoon – Departure

Today we start the day by an excursion to the Blue Lagoon.  The Blue Lagoon is a unique sight where guests enjoy relaxing in warm geothermal water surrounded by magical black lava fields.  The Blue Lagoon’s warm water and natural active ingredients; mineral salts, silica and blue green algae help you relax and escape the stress and strain of daily life.  Bathing in this surreal environment is a unique experience no one should miss.  To top your experience, a special Blue Lagoon cocktail will be served to the group, in the Lagoon itself!

After experiencing the wonders of bathing in the Blue Lagoon, lunch at the Blue Lagoon’s Lava Restaurant. The name of this restaurant is extremely appropriate since it is built in the lava that surrounds the Blue Lagoon.  One of the walls is a natural stone wall but the rest are high glass walls with a view over the lagoon.

After lunch, transfer to Keflavík Airport for return flight.
